The main types and standardized operations of lawn maintenance machinery

In the process of maintenance and management of lawns after planting, lawn machines with various functions are required, including trimmers, aercore, fertilizer spreaders, turf roller, lawn mowers, verticutter machines, edge cutter machines and top dresser, etc. Here we focus on lawn mower, turf aerator and verti cutter.

1. Lawn mower

Lawn mowers are the main machinery in lawn management. Scientific selection, standard operation and careful maintenance of lawn mowers are the focus of lawn maintenance. Mowing the lawn at the right time can promote its growth and development, prevent the plants from heading, flowering, and fruiting, and effectively control the growth of weeds and the occurrence of pests and diseases. It plays a major role in improving the effect of garden landscape and promoting the development of garden industry.

1.1 Safety check before operation

Before cutting the grass, check whether the blade of the cutting machine is damaged, whether the nuts and bolts are fastened, whether the tire pressure, oil, and gasoline indicators are normal. For lawnmowers equipped with electric starting devices, the battery should be charged for at least 12 hours before the first use; wooden sticks, stones, tiles, iron wires and other debris should be removed from the lawn before cutting grass. The fixed facilities such as sprinkler irrigation pipe heads should be marked to prevent damage to the blades. Before cutting the grass, measure the height of the lawn and adjust the lawnmower to a reasonable cutting height. It is best not to cut grass on wet grassland after watering, heavy rain or mildew rain season.

1.2 Standard mowing operations

Do not mow the grass when there are children or pets in the mowing area, wait for them to stay away before proceeding. When operating the lawnmower, wear eye protection, do not go barefoot or wear sandals when cutting grass, generally wear work clothes and work shoes; cut grass when the weather is good. When working, the lawnmower should be pushed forward slowly, and the speed should not be too fast. When mowing on a sloping field, don't go high and low. When turning on slopes, you must be especially careful to ensure that the machine is stable. For lawns with a slope greater than 15 degrees, push-type or self-propelled lawnmowers shall not be used for operation, and mechanical mowing is prohibited on very steep slopes. Do not lift or move the lawnmower when cutting grass, and do not cut the lawn when moving backwards. When the lawnmower experiences abnormal vibration or encounters foreign objects, turn off the engine in time, remove the spark plug and check the relevant parts of the lawnmower.

1.3 Machine maintenance

All parts of the lawnmower should be lubricated regularly in accordance with the regulations in the lawnmower manual. The cutter head should be cleaned after each use. The filter element of the air filter must be replaced every 25 hours of use, and the spark plug should be cleaned regularly. If the lawnmower is not used for a long time, all the fuel in the gasoline engine should be drained and stored in a dry and clean machine room. The battery of the electric starter or electric lawnmower should be charged regularly. Proper use and maintenance can extend the service life of the lawnmower, increase productivity, and ensure safe operation.

2. Turf Aercore

The main equipment for lawn punching work is turf aerator. The role of lawn punching and maintenance is an effective measure for lawn rejuvenation, especially for lawns where people are active in frequent ventilating and maintenance, that is, using machines to drill holes of a certain density, depth and diameter on the lawn. Extend its green viewing period and service life. According to the different ventilation requirements of lawn drilling, there are usually flat deep piercing knives, hollow tube knives, conical solid knives, flat root cutters and other types of knives for lawn drilling operations.

2.1 Main points of operation of turf aerator

2.1.1Manual turf aerator

The manual turf aerator has a simple structure and can be operated by one person. Hold the handle with both hands during operation, press the hollow pipe knife into the bottom of the lawn to a certain depth at the punching point, and then pull out the pipe knife. Because the pipe knife is hollow, when the pipe knife pierces the soil, the core soil will remain in the pipe knife, and when another hole is drilled, the soil in the pipe core squeezes upward into a cylindrical container. The cylinder is not only a support for the punching tool, but also a container for the core soil when punching. When the core soil in the container has accumulated to a certain amount, pour it out from the upper open end. The pipe cutter is installed at the lower part of the cylinder, and it is pressed and positioned by two bolts. When the bolts are loosened, the pipe cutter can be moved up and down to adjust different drilling depths. This kind of hole punch is mainly used for the field and local small grassland where the motorized hole punch is not suitable, such as the hole near the root of the tree in the green space, around the flower bed and around the goal pole of the sports field.

Vertical turf aercore

This type of punching machine performs vertical up and down movement of the tool during the punching operation, so that the punched vent holes are perpendicular to the ground without picking up soil, thereby improving the quality of the punching operation. The walk-operated self-propelled punching machine is mainly composed of an engine, a transmission system, a vertical punching device, a motion compensation mechanism, a walking device, and a manipulation mechanism. On the one hand, the power of the engine drives the traveling wheels through the transmission system, and on the other hand, the punching tool makes the vertical reciprocating movement through the crank slider mechanism. In order to ensure that the cutting tool moves vertically without soil pick-up during the drilling operation, the motion compensation mechanism can push the cutting tool to move in the direction opposite to the machine's advancement after the tool is inserted into the lawn, and its moving speed is exactly equal to the machine's advancement speed. It can keep the tool in a vertical state relative to the ground during the drilling process. When the tool is pulled out of the ground, the compensation mechanism can quickly return the tool to prepare for the next drilling.

Rolling turf aerator

This machine is a walking-operated self-propelled lawn puncher, which is mainly composed of engine, frame, armrest, operating mechanism, ground wheel, suppression wheel or counterweight, power transmission mechanism, knife roller and other components. The power of the engine drives the walking wheels through the transmission system on the one hand, and on the other hand drives the knife roller to roll forward. The perforating tool installed on the knife roller is inserted and pulled out of the soil in turn, leaving ventilation holes on the lawn. This type of punching machine mainly relies on the weight of the machine itself for punching, so it is equipped with a roller or counterweight to enhance the ability of the punching tool to enter the soil. Its main working part is the knife roller, which has two forms, one is to install perforating knives evenly on the cylindrical roller, and the other is to install and fix on the top corners of a series of discs or equilateral polygons. Or a punching tool with adjustable angle.

3. Verti-cutter

The verticutter is a kind of raking machine with a slight raking strength. When the lawn grows, the dead roots, stems, and leaves accumulate on the lawn, which will hinder the soil from absorbing water, air and fertilizer. It causes the soil to be barren, inhibits the growth of new leaves of the plant, and affects the development of shallow roots of the grass, which will cause its death in case of drought and severe cold weather. Therefore, it is necessary to use a lawn mower to comb the withered grass blades and promote the growth and development of the grass.

3.1 The structure of the verticutter

The vertical cutter can comb the grass and comb the roots, and some also have the function of cutting roots. Its main structure is similar to that of the rotary tiller, except that the rotary machete is replaced with a machete. The grooming knife has the form of elastic steel wire rake teeth, straight knife, "S" shaped knife and flail knife. The first three are simple in structure and reliable in work; the flail one has a complex structure, but has a strong ability to overcome changing external forces. When suddenly encountering an increase in resistance, the flail will bend to reduce the impact, which is beneficial to protect the stability of the blade and the engine. The hand-push verticutter is mainly composed of handrails, frame, ground wheel, depth-limiting roller or depth-limiting wheel, engine, transmission mechanism and grass-grooming roller. According to different power modes, lawn mowers can generally be divided into two types: hand-push type and tractor-mounted type.

3.2 Operating points of verticutter

The grass grooming roller is equipped with many vertical blades with a certain interval on a shaft. The power output shaft of the engine is connected to the cutter shaft through a belt to drive the blades to rotate at a high speed. When the blades approach the lawn, they tear the withered grass blades and throw them to on the lawn, wait for follow-up work equipment to be cleaned. The cutting depth of the blade can be adjusted by changing the height of the depth-limiting roller or the depth-limiting wheel through an adjusting mechanism, or by adjusting the relative distance between the walking wheel and the cutter shaft. The tractor-mounted verticutter transmits the power of the engine to the knife roller shaft through the power output device to drive the blade to rotate. The cutting depth of the blade is adjusted by the tractor's hydraulic suspension system.
